National Level Workshop on Women Issues by WPI
   

The Welfare Party of India organized a National Level Workshop on women issues here at Social Institute, Benson Town, Bangalore on Dec 05, 2012.

Four states: Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu participated in the workshop with a total number of 60 participants. National President Mr Mujtaba Farooq, National vice President Dr. Lalita Nayak, National Gen Sec. Dr. SQR Ilyas, and National Gen Sec. Mr. PC Hamza were also present.

The aim of the workshop was —

1.       To review the constitutional and legal safeguard for women.

2.       To recommend remedial legislative measures

3.       To facilitate redress of grievances

4.       To advise and pressurize the govt. in all policy matters affecting women. 

The workshop had two Business Sessions. The first session was addressed by Resource persons who were

1. Kathyayiri Chamraj, Executive Trustee, Civic.
She spoke on the topic women and law but mainly dealt with labour laws.

2. Geeta Menon, Secretary Stree Jagruti Samiti

She spoke on the topic ‘women trafficking and her presentation was forceful and inspiring. She also presented small documentary on woman trafficking.

3. Rukana Hassan, Director New Dawn Rehabilitation Centre

Her topic was ‘women and health.’ She mainly spoke on ‘women and addiction.’

4. Shakun Mohini, Member Core Committee, Vimochana,

Her Topic was ‘women atrocities’, and she spoke on the problems of Muslim women as she probably perceived it as a Muslim workshop attended by Muslim audience.

The second session which was exclusively for WPI members began post lunch with the opening remarks by Dr.SQR Ilyas who spoke on the gravity and intensity of the problems faced by women and the responsibility of WPI in addressing them politically and thereby, bringing a social change.

This was followed by group discussion and the audiences were divided into 4 groups.

The leader of each group presented their report on the topic discussed in the morning session.

3. Anusuya

4. Dilshath 

Mrs. Sheema Mohsin, National Converge women wing gave a report on the organizational decision taken in their workshop which were:

1.       To establish women’s wing in every state

2.       To organize a membership drive to enroll women members

3.       To have a organizational set up for women at all level

4.       To have a national team for women which will comprise of National convener, Zonal leaders, and state conveyers

5.       To appoint 4 zonal women leaders to support the National convener

6.       To have a woman spokesperson to address women issues in media in every state

7.       To have orientation programs exclusively on women issues

8.       To have a youth wing with in women’s wing

9.       To provide funds to women wing to take up women issues at the state and national level

10.   To bring awareness on women’s schemes taken up to the Govt. by WPIWW.

11.   To identity women leaders and groom them in every state. 

This workshop was concluded by the closing remarks of All India President of WPI, Mr Mujtaba Farooq who gave his valuable remarks on the presentation of different speakers and also spoke on the vision of the WPI and the role women cadre has to play in fulfilling it.
