Welfare Party asks Human Rights Commission to intervene in Hyderabad...
New Delhi: 24th March, 2016. Welfare Party of India through an urgent letter asked Justice H.L. Dattu, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission to intervene immediately in the Hyderabad Central University where the students are living under siege denied of basic amenities of food, water and electricity. Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, national president accused the controversial VC Appa Rao who returned to the campus after short leave and whose actions allegedly led to the sad suicide of Dalit PhD scholar Rohit Vemula, of waging war with his own students as like enemy people. “Return of Mr. Appa Rao has quite naturally annoyed and antagonized the student community. Campus mess has been closed. The democratically protesting students are even blocked from cooking food by themselves. Wifi facilities are blocked and ATM withdrawals for students are also made impossible. It seems that Appa Rao has come back with new incarnation of “modern Hitler” with complete political support of the fascist regime. The students were physically beaten and allegations of sexual assault are raised by girl students. Many students have been rounded up and kept in custody without revealing their whereabouts and thus denying them due legal rights. It is cruel and inhuman,” the letter continued. He strongly urged the Chairman to immediately intervene as there is gross violation of human rights, rights of students and rights of children and to save the students from starvation. He asked the HRD ministry to call back Appa Rao forthwith considering the sentiments of the students and not to take it as an issue of egotism. While underlying that nothing short of mass uprising and protest will save the students from starvation and bring justice, national president asked all democratic forces and especially party workers to organise mass protests against the new developments in the HCU.
