Welfare Party of India express solidarity with JNU students on hunge...
New Delhi: 3rd May, 2016. Welfare Party of India in a statement expressed solidarity with the JNU students on hunger strike demanding withdrawal of punitive actions taken against some students for the February 9th programme conducted in the university. Party national general secretary PC Hamza accused the VC and the union HRD minister for pushing the students to take such an extreme step of hunger strike. "19 students are on indefinite hunger strike for six days since 28th April against the probe panel report that recommended strong actions against Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Battacharjee. The students charge against the HLEC probe panel appointed by the VC not to be unbiased and inclusive seems genuine. It is inhuman to push the students to resort to such a drastic step of hunger strike in the torching heat of summer. It is also worrying that the media gives little coverage for the strike. Party units and cadres across the country must take out programmes extending solidarity with the students and protesting against the callous indifference of union HRD and JNU authorities" the statement continued.
