Massive dharna followed by petition to Sri. Pranab Mukherjee, the President of India to intervene to bring peace and sense of security among countrymen

New Delhi, 24th September, 2016. An impressive dharna organized under the banner of UP ITTEHAD FRONT, a coalition of national and regional political parties held today at Jantar Mantar expressed anguish and anger over alarmingly increasing atrocities and attacks by self-styled cow vigilantes, deteriorating law and order situation in the country and urged the President to intervene as Constitutional Supreme of the nation. The petition alleged ever since the central government under Mr. Modi assumed power at the centre, attacks against Muslims, Dalits, Tribals and Women have been going high at frightening rate. Official figures of the government itself stand for this.

Leaders of various political parties who addressed the dharna and signed the petition drew the attention of the President to the inhuman lynching, killing, maiming, rape, loot, arson etc perpetuated by gau rakshaks across the country and took strong exception to the callous silence of the Prime Minister for a long period and for half-hearted reprimand later.

Speakers at the dharna shared the opinion that the core ideals like secularism, justice, equality, freedom and fraternity that are enshrined in our Constitution are at stake and the present regime with its divisive ideology and polarising politicks cannot take all peoples with plural faiths and cultures of the country on board. The leaders submitted the following demands before the President.

1) Ban individual and collective activities of cow vigilantes and book them under UAPA for terrorizing and tormenting peace in the society

2) Judicial commission be set up to investigate some of the above incidents, which are severely serious like Dadri, Una, Dingerhedi (Mewat), Bijnore etc

3) Due compensation and adequate rehabilitation measures should be provided to the victims and their families.

4) In this era of globalised world, people’s food habits should be left free to the individuals.

5) Law enforcing personnel who take sides with the law breaking gau vigilantes or err in delivering the duties should be punished.

6) The Communal Violence Bill should be made law so that communal forces could be dealt and controlled effectively and efficiently. This will reinforce confidence of the people in efficacy of law of the land and will bring peace and security in the country.

The dharna was addressed by Mr. Tej Singh, President, Ambedkar Samaj Party, Mr. Saleem Peerzada, President, Parcham Party, Prof. Mohammed Sulaiman, President, Indian National League, Dr. S.Q.R. Ilyas, President, Welfare Party of India, Mr. Shamsher Pathan.
