Dr. S. Q. R. Ilyas, general secretary, Welfare Party of India asked K. Rahman Khan, union minister for minority affairs to take effective steps to implement in full recommendations of the Sachar Commission. The general secretary met the minister at his office in New Delhi and discussed wide ranging issues. Dr. Ilyas appreciated the serious and sincere initiatives taken by the minister to ensure that benefits of his portfolio reached the desired sections. He requested the minister to see that the new Wakf Bill got passed in the ensuing session of the parliament.

The minister promised that various apprehensions raised by concerned community leaders will be resolved. 

Regarding equal opportunity commission, diversity index and data bank, the minister said the Government was looking  into the legal and constitutional aspects and would soon come out with solution. to the general secretary’s demand to enact Rangnath Mishra Commision recommendations, Rehman Khan said it required constitutional amendment.

 

Dr. Ilyas brought to the attention of the minister the case of  large number of under trials including many Muslim youth implicated in terror cases. The minister clarified that though the issue doesn't directly come under his ministry, he had met the home minister twice in this connection. he assured the government was sincerely planning to address this issue.
