Mumbai gang rape an unpardonable crime: Welfare Party of India

New Delhi: The Welfare Party of India strongly condemned the gang rape of a young photo journalist in Mumbai and termed it unjustifiable and unpardonable. Mrs. Sheema Mohsin, National Convenor, Women’s Wing of the Party in a statement said the incident exposed how unsafe India is for women. She criticized the governments both at the centre and the states for having failed in providing women safety, security and dignity. She asked for speedy trial and maximum punishment to the culprits and compensation, support and justice to the victim. In spite of all assurances by the government in providing a strong law and the recently enacted legislation-the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, atrocities against women and rape go on at alarming rate across the country. She castigated the law enforcing agencies for lack of seriousness and sincerity in implementing the laws. She said the entire tolerance limit has been crossed and asked for effective measures to install confidence in women. The Party Women’s Wing Convenor strongly demanded to stop indecent portrayal of women in all forms.

She also said that accountability should be fixed on the police officer in whose jurisdiction the rape takes

place. She strongly felt that there was urgent need to sensitize the society on gender issues and install values to reduce crime on women.
