Trivandrum: September 3. About a hundred welfare Party workers including State Secretaries Sreeja Neyyatinkara, Razack Paleri and District President Rajagopalan Nair were arrested today for blockading the newly opened beverage supermarket at Ulloor near Trivandrum. Ever since the United Democratic Front led by Congress came to power in Kerala in 2011, liberal approach was taken and many beverage outlets were opened and lately the state government took policy decision to sanction beverage supermarkets in spite of strong opposition from political, religious and pro-prohibition groups.

Welfare Party Kerala unit has been taking out programmes against the liberal policy of the state governments to make liquor easily available. Inaugurating the blockade, state general secretary Ambujakshan blamed the Congress-led UDF government of total submission before liquor lobby. He told that the government  move to make liquor easily and widely available would invite lot of socio, economic problems to the people of the state already notorious for highest consumption of liquor in the country.
