Welfare Party demanded lifting of Ban on Documentary ‘The Daughter...

Welfare Party of India strongly condemned the government's decision to ban Ms Leslee Udwin's documentary, 'The daughter of India' based on the famous Nirbhaya Gang Rape.

Addressing the issue to lift the ban National President of Welfare Party of India Dr SQR Ilyas said that the documentary with its powerful message deals with many issues pertaining to women, their individuality, their space in the public domain, their safety and security etc.

Raising some important points.Dr Ilyas said, the documentary exposed the mind set of not just the accused but of the civil society that prevails in India which cannot be ignored and this bitter truth needs to be faced and dealt with. Even the revealing of the Girl's name is not the reason for the ban, as the parents themselves have given it out in the interview shown in the documentary. It is not even the matter of subjudice as the case is now at a stage of final appeal in the Supreme Court.

The documentary is unbiased and sensibly unfolding the events.
With all the above reasons, the ban has no social, moral and legal stand to back it then why is the government banning it, he asked.

The denial and banning it is more embarrassing for India's image globally, he added, the government  has to do much more in providing security to its women citizens as the crimes against women are ever increasing and silencing voices and imposing ban is undemocratic and thereby not acceptable. He strongly implored the government to lift the ban immediately, the statement continued.
