New Delhi: 4th November 2016.  Welfare Party of India strongly condemned the decision of the inter-ministerial committee on information and broadcasting of the union government to impose one-day ban on the NDTV for its coverage of Pathankot terror attack. Party national general secretary PC Hamza in a statement said ever since the Modi government assumed power at the centre, an atmosphere of fear, intimidation and intolerance has been created. "Those who argue with the government or disagree over its policies are treated as alien and part of enemy block. Those who raise uncomfortable questions are branded as anti-national and desh drohi. NDTV is one among the media outlets that air independent voice and fulfill the right of the public to a certain extent to know the hidden truth. The ban is nothing but part of the Sangh-driven central government tactics to suffocate other voices. The ban on NDTV reminds us of the black days of Emergency wherein the fundamental rights of the people were frozen and wherein an atmosphere to crawl when asked to bend was forcefully and fearfully created. Welfare Party of India extends its solidarity with the media firm. Instead of resorting to judicial intervention and levying punishment by competent institutions, the government is taking the role of judge, jury and execution as seen in the case of gunning down of alleged SIMI jail breakers," the statement continued.  Party national general secretary also urged the entire media fraternity to come out openly against the authoritarian dictate of Modi government and express unequivocal support to fellow NDTV. The media fraternity must seriously consider of pulling out of the air on November 9 as solidarity measure.
