Welfare Party of India terms Supreme Court judgement against Justice...

New Delhi: 10th May, 2017. Welfare Party of India took strong exception to the Supreme Court judgement against Justice Karnan of the Kolkata High Court to send him to jail for six months. Party national president Dr. SQR. Ilyas in a statement while terming the judgment as highly unfortunate said that the apex court has overstepped with over activism.

“The Court could have resorted to the constitutional provision of impeachment instead of imprisoning him who is to retire in June. The court didn't take pain to alleviate the reality of allegations of corruption and nepotism at the highest judicial system raised by Justice Karnan but was hasty with using extra powers to silence dissenting and different voices.

It is indigestible why the Court didn't initiate any action against people who levelled similar to or rather serious charges against Supreme Court judges in the past. Moreover the blanket ban imposed by the court on media from reporting any view of or statement from Karnan is to be condemned as it is nothing but declaring emergency. Why the Court curtails his freedom as an individual and the freedom of expression entitled to media?.

Justice Karnan's submission that he is being selectively hunted for his Dalit identity cannot be taken lightly. Various instances of the past and recent reveal the mighty castiest and racist mentality deep-rooted in the Indian society that has engrossed almost all walks of our life,” the statement continued.

Party national president Dr. Ilyas further asked Sri. Pranab KumarMukherjee to intervene as constitutional head of the nation and save Justice Karnan from being imprisoned.
