NEW DELHI — Welfare Party of India on Thursday staged a massive demonstration here at Jantra Mantar, demanding stern action against those involved in rising lynchings and mob attacks on Muslims. Agitating leaders condemned the attitude of the BJP-led government saying the Prime Minister is only doing lip-service. They alleged that the government did not take any concrete step to curb this ‘lawlessness’ in the name of protecting cattle which even doesn’t know what is happening in her name.
Addressing the gathering, Welfare Party President Dr. S Q R Ilyas said that the government has shown least concern about the growing incidents of mob lynchings and attacks on Muslims in which members of BJP’s affiliate organizations are involved. He also alleged that the Prime Minister is only issuing statements instead of taking any concrete steps to send a strong message to the so-called cow vigilantes and Bajrang Dal members.
Muslims, Dalits, and other weaker sections have been living in a state of fear since  Mohammed Aklaque in Dadri was brutally lynched in a village of Dadri in UP while the BJP-led government in various states is doing nothing to instill confidence in affected communities, he said.
Prof Mohammad Suleman, President of Indian National League, said since the Yogi government came to power in the India’s largest state, a reign of terror is unleashed by the Hindutva groups with the tacit support of the administration.  After assuming power, the Yogi government first attacked the state’s second largest population by banning slaughterhouses across the state, Prof Suleman said.

Dr Prem Singh, General Secretary of the Socialist Party of India, said it is most reprehensible that innocents are being killed in the name of protecting a cow.  Dr. Singh, who sat on a week-long hunger strike against hunger after young Hafiz Junaid was killed in a train, warned that cow-politics of this government would wreak havoc on the country. He asked the government to take stern measures against the cow vigilantes whom the PM had himself called “goondas”, otherwise the country would pay a huge price.
A Raghavan from Lokraj Sanghatan, Sikh leader Baljit Singh and Intezar Naeem from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind also addressed the gathering and condemned the growing scourge of mob-lynchings and attacks on Muslims in the country.
Protesters also condemned the attack on Amarnath yatris in Kashmir demanding a fair inquiry into the incident.  Leaders also submitted a memorandum to the President of India asking him to nudge the government on the mob-lynching issue.
